Wilbur D Johnson

Wilbur Donald Johnson, age 94, of Union City, IN died peacefully at his home on Friday, March 5, 2021. He was born on September 12, 1926 in Waverly, OH to the late Harley S. and Gladys I. Johnson.  On June 29, 1955 he married Martha Janet Porter of Union City, IN
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha Janet;  children, Teresa Stoner of Union City, Cheryl Heindl of Union City, and John & Christine Johnson of Cape Coral, FL; grandchildren, Bryce & Demetria Stoner of Lapel, IN, Kevin & Lauren Stoner of Bloomington, IL, Samuel Johnson of Orlando, FL, and Emma Johnson of Cape Coral, FL; great grandbaby #1 due in September; Marshall a special furry friend; brother in law, Richard Flora of Traverse City, MI; Wilbur is survived by several nieces and nephews of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Florida, Connecticut, California, and Iowa

He was preceded by his parents; siblings, Kathleen Flora, JoAnn and Richard Hedrick, Vern “Tub” & Tate Johnson

Wilbur served in World War II in the U.S. Army Artillery of the 790th Battalion.  After the war the Battalion was assigned to France and Germany.
Wilbur was a member of the VFW and a past member of the American Legion and Elks Club.

He and his brother-in-law, Arlie Chet Mock, owned the Texaco gas station for several years (1953) located at the corner of Howard and Oak in Union City.
Wilbur retired from Sheller Globe after 36 years, 1953-1989.

Wilbur lived a very full life. He was an avid golfer, snowmobiler, and enjoyed boating at Lake Cumberland, KY, enjoying them well into his eighties.   He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and a good joke.  He and his wife loved Big Band music and dancing.  

Visitation will be 2-3 PM Thursday March 11, 2021 at the EUM Church in Union City, OH. Services are 3 PM Thursday also at the church. Burial will follow in the Union City Cemetery with Military Burial Rites conducted by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
