Virginia Smedley age 88, of Winchester Indiana, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday morning October 7, 2025. She was born October 4, 1937, in Pelfrey Kentucky, a daughter of the late David Henry Smedley and Letha Rae (Wallace) Plank. She was raised in Rowan co. Kentucky but spent the rest of her life in Randolph co. Indiana.
Virginia was a proud homemaker and enjoyed cooking delicious holiday dinners for her family. She loved music, telling stories, and was known for her expressive style and flair. Virginia was one of a kind. She was strong in her faith, no nonsense, and truly unforgettable.
She is survived by sons Johnny Ray Goodhew (April) and Joseph DeWayne Goodhew (Pam); daughters Barbara Ann Martin (Greg) and Donna Jean Will; brothers Donald Smedley, Eugene Plank (Delphia), and Larry Planck; sisters Debbie Plank-Nesselhauf (Daniel) and Bonnie York; as well as many precious grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by sisters Christine Phillips, Janet Plank, and Margie Plank; brothers Wendell Smedley, Danny Smedley, and Leslie Smedley; and her canine companion Tinker.
Visitation will take place on Saturday October 11th from 10 am- 12 pm at Reichard Funeral Home 400 W Deerfield Rd, Union City, IN., followed by graveside service at 12:30 at Reitenour cemetery in Ridgeville.
