Vera Jean Abel

Vera Jean Abel, 85, passed away Wednesday December 10, 2025, at her residence. She was born February 2, 1940, in Rossburg, OH daughter of the late Taft and Lavera Booker Gibson.

She worked for Wright’s IGA and Marsh Supermarket for 25+ years until her retirement. She was a graduate of the Jackson School class of 1958. Vera was part of a Ladies and a Couples card club for over 50 years, she loved playing cards and going to the casino.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Sandra (Ron) Huntwork of Union City, IN, Jeanelle (Daren) Hiatt of Union City, OH; grandchildren Russ Reichard Jr, Darick (Joanna) Hiatt, Megan (Travis) Frame; 10 great grandchildren Oaklee, Ava, and Addison Reichard, Brody, Jay, Ty, Rhett and Mia Hiatt, Mason and Lainey Frame; sister Virginia (Ron) Whitesel of Union City, IN, twin sister Velma (Robert) Breymier of Union City, OH; step grandchildren Nickie (Dave) Bush and Christi (David) Weaver; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband of 59 years Billy Abel “2018,” siblings Jerry Gibson, Gary Gibson, and Marilyn Shields.

Visitation will be held Tuesday December 16, 2025, from 1-3 PM at the Reichard Funeral Home with funeral services at 3 PM. Burial will follow in the Salamonia Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Union City or Mississinawa Valley Athletic Boosters with envelopes available at the funeral home.
