Ronald G. Norton

Jun 2, 1940 — Jun 30, 2026

Union City, IN

Ronald G. Norton, (aka “Grandpa” to many who knew him thru his grandsons Matt and Wade Hunt) age 86, of Union City, IN passed away on June 30, 2026 at Parker Health & Rehab facility after his long battle with cancer. He was born on June 2, 1940 to the late Ben and Anna Mae (Stewart) Norton.

Ron was the first of his siblings to graduate from high school at Union City Wayne, class of 1958. Soon after graduation he joined the Marine Corp. After his time in the Marines, he moved back to Union City where he worked at the Union City Mold Shop and Westinghouse among other various jobs throughout the years.

He married Barbara (Davisson) Norton on July 17, 1977. Shortly after he and Barbara wed, they moved to Taylor Texas where Ron worked construction, tried his hand at owning a skating rink and later a bowling alley. After several years the work slowed in Texas and they returned to Indiana and eventually back to Union City.

Ron enjoyed his cabinet shop where he, and his brother Arnold, built custom pieces for many folks around the area. From full kitchen cabinets to desks and even a custom wine-rack. Most recently he worked for Russell and Lori Hodges at Union City Assembly where he enjoyed giving Russ and Buck a hard time on a daily basis. We like to think this is partly what kept him a “young” 85 years old.

He also loved playing golf and was a member of the Union City Country Club for many years. Recently, beating his brother Dan was his goal most days on the golf course. That always made him smile, mainly because then Dan had to buy him a beer afterwards. Ron also enjoyed teaching his Great Grandson, Aron Hunt, to play golf and proudly watch him play for the Mississinawa High School Golf Team.

Survivors include his children Michael Norton, Linda (Duke) Temple, Debra Smith, Teresa (Dan) Copeland and Vicki Perez. Siblings Thomas “Arnold” (Susie)Norton, Teresa (Jim) Miklos, Dan (Brenda) Norton and Sandy Marcum. Sisters-in-laws Nancy (Donnie) Norton and Onie (Billie) Norton,7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Ron was preceded in death by his wife and love of his life Barbara, parents, brothers Kenny & wife Peg Norton, Donnie Norton, Billie Norton and his former wife Judy (Rossner) Norton.

There will be a gathering at the Union City Country Club on September 19th 2026, from 2-5pm, where family and friends can pay respects, grab a bite, tell some stories and we will raise one last toast to Ron in celebration of his life at 5pm.

A burial will follow at a later date.
