Roger Lee Gastineau

Roger Lee Gastineau, 77, of Winchester, Indiana, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2026.Roger was born April 30, 1949, in New Castle, Indiana, to Charles Lee and Anna Hazel (Bonifacius) Gastineau. He was a proud graduate of Winchester Community High School, Class of 1968.

Following high school, Roger proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Germany. After returning home in 1972, he began his career with GTE in 1973. He remained with the company through its transition to Verizon until his retirement in 2007.

Roger was a man who found joy in the simple things and in the people around him. After retirement, mornings often meant meeting up with his group at one of the local breakfast spots, where good food, good company, and plenty of conversation could always be found. He had a particular love for ice cream—especially a Butterfinger Blizzard.

Roger was quick-witted and always seemed to have a smart comment ready. His family came to expect it, and more importantly, they loved him for it. His sense of humor was one of the many things that made him uniquely Roger.

One of his favorite roles after retirement was becoming the family’s unofficial chauffeur. In his beloved “red taxi,” Roger could often be found transporting his grandchildren wherever they needed to go. Those rides became memories that his grandchildren will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Above all else, Roger was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was, in the words of his family, the best father and grandfather—a man whose love, humor, presence, and unmistakable personality will be deeply missed.

Roger is survived by his wife, Sharon Gastineau; his children, Brad Gastineau (Brandi), Shawnda Riddle (Rob), Cari Anderson (Adam Seiber), and Shane Gastineau; and his grandchildren, Kayla Gastineau (David Cordrey), Cameron Gastineau (Cynthia Savage), Peyton Clemons, Braelyn Gastineau (Gradyn Moyer), Lexi Walker, and Evan Anderson. He is also survived by his great-granddaughter, Hazel Cordrey, and a great-grandson who is expected to arrive in November.

He is also survived by his sister, Goldie Lennington.

Roger was preceded in death by his son, Mike Sears; his brothers, Charles Gastineau and Ray Gastineau; and his sisters, Christine Holliday, Louise Hammer, Francis Crisp, Sue Graham, and Shirley Gastineau.

He also leaves behind two very loved companions, his dogs Jasper and Lucy, who were an important part of his family.

Roger leaves behind a lifetime of memories, a family who adored him, and countless people who will remember his quick wit, his generous spirit, his love of a good breakfast, and that red taxi that carried so many of the people he loved.
