Patricia Ann (Kirkendall) Stocksdale, 82, of Union City, Indiana died June 9, 2017 at 4:12 AM at American Heritage in Union City.
Pat was born March 18, 1935 in Kokomo, Indiana to James Francis and Margaret Esther (Montgomery) Kirkendall and grew up in Howard County, Indiana. She was a graduate of Western High School in 1953. She received a Bachelor’s degree from Taylor University in 1957 and a Master’s degree from Purdue University in 1963. Pat taught Home Economics for 23 years (1973-1996) at Mississinawa Valley High School. In addition to teaching, she assisted with FHA and the Bible Club. Previously she had taught in several schools around Kokomo, Indiana, as well as at Versailles, Ohio and Russiaville, Indiana.
She enjoyed music throughout her life. She was a member of the Cecilian Music Club of Union City, and, she and her sister-in-laws Connie and Janet Stocksdale performed as the Stocksdale Trio for several years in the 1970s. Pat was also passionate about global missions. Upon graduating from Taylor, she began applying to Baptist Mid Missions. However, her direct involvement in overseas missions would be through her children, Jon and Diane, who have worked in Africa for several decades. After retirement, she and her husband Don did travel to Africa seven times to assist with building and mission projects.
From the 1960s to the 1990s, she was an active member at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren in Darke County, Ohio. Since the 1990s, she has been an active member at Pleasant Hill Church in Union City, Indiana. At both churches she was a teacher and music leader.
Pat is survived by her four children (and their spouses), Jon (Susan) Stocksdale, Diane (Mark) Vanderkooi, Mark (Carol) Stocksdale, Paul (Cynthia) Stocksdale; seven grandchildren, Joel, Kyle, Caroline, Gabriella, Benjamin, Griffen, and Graham Stocksdale; sister, Betty Albright; brother, Don Kirkendall.
In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Stocksdale and her brother, James Kirkendall.
Visitation will be from 9 am to 11 am at Pleasant Hill Church, 9945 N 800 E, Union City, Indiana on Saturday, June 17th. Memorial Service will follow.
