Norma June (McHolland) Abel passed away peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on Friday, October 17. Thaddeus and Enid (Brock) McHolland gave birth to Norma on May 23, 1932, in Bedford, Indiana, the fifth of their 12 children.
Norma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ralph, her brothers Bob (Rosemary), Don (Teresa), John (Kate), Larry and her sister Elizabeth (Herman "Mac"). Norma's other siblings include Helen (Bob), Joe (Joan deceased), David (Sandy), Nancy (Tom), and Rita, all of whom were very special to Norma. Spread out from Arizona, Georgia, Ohio, and Indiana they remained close.
Ralph and Norma were married on August 11, 1951, in San Diego, California where Ralph was stationed in the Navy. They moved to Union City, Indiana in 1952 then on to Winchester in 1964 which became their hometown. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage until Ralph's death in 2006.
Norma gave birth to 5 children, Tony (Tanda) of Winchester, Lisabeth (Scott) of Lynn, Indiana, Thad (Shelli) of Grandville, Michigan, Tim (Brenda) of Selma, Indiana and Troy of Winchester. Norma was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild all of whom she loved to baby sit!
Norma was the heart and soul of the family raising her children while working third shift at the hospital all the while making sure her family was well taken care of. An amazing cook the family would marvel at their mom's creativity when food was in short supply. A talented woman, Norma could do the impossible which is why many would call her for help. Whether it was fixing the plumbing, sewing a button, or getting food ready for company Norma loved to draw, play the piano, was a whiz at crossword puzzles, and 1,000-piece puzzles. She used to sew her own dresses and always looked beautiful! The family loves the warm afghans she made which will always be keep sakes. In her later years Norma worked in the office for Dr. Susan Pyle in Union City. Norma was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Union City, serving the Lord and was truly a Proverbs 31 woman.
The family will receive visitors from 9:30am to 10:30am on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church 1470 W, 1470 IN-28, Union City, IN 47390. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 with burial to follow at Union City Cemetery.
