Lois Templeton

March 29, 1926 — December 12, 2025

Union City, IN

Lois Templeton passed away peacefully at 9:45 p.m. on December 12, 2025, surrounded by her family, after a long journey with dementia. She was three months shy of her 100th birthday. Over her remarkable lifetime, she marveled at witnessing the world change from horse-drawn buggies to jet planes. Her family was among the first in their area to have indoor plumbing as a child, and she famously had no interest in learning to use a computer.

Lois was born on March 29, 1926, in Lancaster Township (Huntington), Indiana, to Marco and Mary Plasterer. She was the youngest of their three children. After earning her two-year secretarial certificate from Huntington College, she worked in her father’s insurance business. Following World War II, she met Kenneth E. Templeton, whom she married in 1950. They welcomed three children in 1953, 1956, and 1959.

Prior to the birth of their third child, Ken and Lois moved to Union City, Indiana, after Ken accepted a position as Northside Elementary School principal. Lois devoted many years as a stay-at-home mother until her youngest child was old enough to get off the school bus independently. She then worked as secretary at Wesley United Methodist Church during the tenures of Rev. Gary Forbes and Rev. Riley B. Case, before spending decades as the medical receptionist for Jerome Leahey, M.D.

Throughout her life, Lois remained active in her church, sorority club, golf league, and bridge clubs. Well into her 80s, she was still driving friends to bridge club. She cherished time spent with her sister and extended family in Huntington, where many family holidays were celebrated. She loved to travel, but equally treasured quiet time at home with her beloved kitties. In 2020, as her disease progressed, her daughter moved Lois and her cats to Maine to care for her.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, in 1994, and her eldest son, Kenton, in 2009. She is survived by her son, Kevin, of Louisiana, and her daughter, Shari, of Maine.

A private graveside service will be held in the summer of 2026, when she will be interred alongside her husband in Union City Cemetery.
