John A Smith

John A. Smith, 78, of Saratoga, Indiana passed away Saturday January 5, 2019 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. John was born October 7, 1940 in Darke County, Ohio the son of the late John A. & Dorothy Sotel Smith. John was a farmer, trucker, baled and sold hay, but known mostly for the breeding and selling of draft horses. He sold draft horses to Disney World, Budweiser, and farmer's from all over the U.S. and Canada. He attended the Wesley United Methodist Church, and was a member of American Truck Historical Society, John's favorite time was spent with his grandchildren and family.
Survivors include his wife of 58 yrs., Carol I. (Miller) Smith; 2 sons, John W. (Wendy) Smith, Donald R. (Wendy) Smith both of Union City, Indiana; 6 grandchildren, Clinton Ray Smith, Jessica Cole, Brittany Morris, Cassandra Smith, Lindsey Smith, Michael Mackey; 6 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Sharon (Jack) Lucas-Centerville, Ohio, Barbara (Ray) Lavy-Greenville, Ohio, Julie Protos-Middletown, Ohio; close and special friend, Beth Farmer.
Preceded by parents; and a brother, A.L. Smith.
A Celebration of Life service will be 2:00 PM Saturday January 12, 2019  at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Union City, Indiana with the Rev. Geoff Grow officiating. Friends may call 1 hour prior to services at the church with burial to be later at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to a Scholarship fund in Memory of John A. Smith with envelopes available at the church.
