John H. Moore Jr. “JR” 66 of Union City, Indiana passed away on August 28, 2025, at Reid Hospital in Richmond. He was born on October 6, 1958, to the late John H. Moore Sr. and Betty (Shackleford) Moore.
J.R., as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends.
J.R. was a 77 graduate of Union City Community High School where he excelled on the track team. He completed the 100-yard dash in an impressive 10 seconds and held the record for many years, which he frequently humbly bragged about. He was also a lover of all types of music and loved talking about his time with his band, Stride.
He was a successful businessman, working for Charles W. Rice before opening his own independent business, J.R.’s Custom Canvas and Awnings. J.R. loved the IU Hoosiers but was bullied into supporting the Purdue Boilermakers, thanks to his daughter, Amy and son-in-law, Darcy. His love for the Green Bay Packers was tried and true. It was always a topic he loved to bring up to lovers of opposing teams. His love of sports carried over to coaching 7th & 8th grade basketball for many years. Other hobbies that J.R. enjoyed included congregating with friends at the Elks, Wednesday night golf league at the country club, cheering on his grandson, Rylan at his baseball games, and snuggling with his little buddy, Cameron. Nothing gave him more pride and happiness than his grandchildren. He also cherished his marriage of 35 years with his wife, Carol, during which they built a life together filled with love, family, and cherished memories.
J.R. always made sure to tell those around him how much they meant to him. Whenever surrounded by loved ones, you could be sure he would seize an opportunity to give you a hug and talk your ear off. His hugs and infectious laugh will be missed greatly.
