Homer "Sonny" Smith

Homer “Sonny” Smith, age 78, of Union City, IN passed away unexpectedly on Friday afternoon February 3, 2023. He was born September 1, 1944, in Statesboro, Georgia to Harlin Smith and Thelma (Commers) Mong.

After graduating in 1963 from Union City Wayne High School he worked many years at Sheller Globe, then later retired from Frank Miller Lumber Company.  He was an avid fisherman, trap shooter, and loved all sports.  He loved being with family and friends.  He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Eagles.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon (Queen) Smith of 45 years, daughters; Cheryl (Mark) Francis, Sharlyn (Bill) Hickey, Jennifer Smith, a brother Terry Smith, six grandchildren; Tyler, Caleb, and Aaron Hickey, Aaliyah Jones, Peyton Bogue, Miles Saintignon, and seven great-grandchildren.  Homer was also survived by other loving family members; Joyce Amos, John M, Roger and Earl Queen, as well as many nieces nephews, uncles and aunts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father in law, Earl Queen, mother in law Elsie M. Queen, brothers Gary Smith, Steve Mong, grandson Nathan Saintignon, and brother in law George Amos III.

Visitation will take place on Thursday February 9, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Reichard Funeral Home 400 W. Deerfield Road Union City, IN 47390.  Burial will take place later at the convenience of the family.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an organization of choice.
