Harold “Nelson” Retter, 83 of Winchester, IN passed away on Saturday evening, January 3, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Randolph Hospital. He was born on February 13, 1942, in Randolph County to the late Harold and Cordelia (Brouse) Retter
Nelson, a lifelong farmer, started at the age of 11 in 1953 until he retired from it in 2023. He was a hardworking man that loved the land and to watch the crops grow.
He worked at Randolph Southern School Corporation as a bus driver to many students and athletes for 40 plus years. He also retired from Astral Industries. He attended New Liberty Christian Church and was a member of the Liberty Cemetery Board.
He leaves to cherish his memory, three daughters; Angela Jensen of Winchester, IN, Kami (Matt) Good of Union City, IN, Shauna Ward (friend Bill Klingel) of Winchester, IN and one son Brendan (Laura) Retter of Winchester, IN, 5 sisters, Rita Densmore, Carolyn (Jim) Rees, Jane (Carroll) Beck, Linda (Ed) Haynes, Joyce Relly, 14 grandchildren, Chase (Jenna) Good, Taylor (Drake) Meska, Ariel Jensen, Ashley Roach, Chanda Morse, Logan (Maci) Ward, Quinton Ward, Malik Good (fiancé Jailyn), Mason Good, Dakota Jensen, Lyla Retter, Lane Retter, Lincoln Retter, and Lawson Retter, 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Ward, Edwin, Duane, Phil Retter, and Sue Brumfield.
A service to celebrate Nelson’s life will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday January 8, 2026, at New Liberty Christian Church on Bloomingport Road, Lynn, IN with pastors Brian Bales and John Retter officiating. Burial will follow at New Liberty Cemetery next to the church. Friends and family may call from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to New Liberty Church with envelopes provided.
