Floyd "Bud" Albert Root

Floyd A. “Bud” Root Jr. passed away Monday June 26, 2023, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana.  He was born on January 3, 1932, in Bloomington, IN, Son of the late Major Floyd Albert Root Sr. and Violet Walden Root.

Bud was a Sargent in the United States Air Force, serving in Korea and Japan for two and a half years.  He retired as an engineer from United Technology in Union City, and was past president of the Jaycees, on the board at the Union City Cemetery where he was president.  He was past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge #1534, 32^nd degree Mason, past Master of Turpen Lodge #401, F&A.M., member of the American Legion, Red Cross board, and had lifetime devotion to Salvation Army. Serving two terms in Union City, IN City Council.  Floyd was also an active member of the First Christian Church in Union City, where he was chairman of the board, trustee, and an elder, and later was a member of New Lisbon Christian Church.

He was survived by his wife Nancy (Suitts) of 56 years, 3 daughters; Cheree (Les) Cox of Hartford City, IN, Shawna (Root) Frazee of Muncie, IN, Cassandra (Michael) Lloyd, of Carmel, IN, son; Aric (Susann) Bateman of Union, KY, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, brother in law; Hollis “Bud” Burridge, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Floyd A. Root III, two brothers: George M. Root, Lloyd A. Root, and a sister Betty J. Burridge.

Visitation will take place on Friday June 30, 2023, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Reichard Funeral Home 400 W. Deerfield Road Union City, IN. Funeral Services will begin at 3:00 pm with Pastor Chuck Armstrong and Salvation Army Officer Curtis Hartley officiating.  Military graveside services will follow at Union City Cemetery.
