Doris Arlene Lake

Doris Arlene Polei Lake, 97 of Deerfield, passed away on June 29, 2026. She was born in Woodington, Ohio, January 14, 1929, to William and Cora (Brouse) Polei.

She graduated from Jefferson High School, Ward Township, Class of 1947. She married James Bruce Lake in 1948 at Deerfield United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Milton Persons. They were married 71 years at the time of Jim’s passing in 2019.

Doris was a past member of both the Deerfield and Winchester Methodist Churches. She was active in the Rebecca Circle Women’s Society. She was past member of the Ridgeville Eastern Star. She retired from Farm Bureau Co-op of Randolph and Wayne Counties as Bookkeeper after many years of service.

She and Jim enjoyed traveling especially to the Holy Land, Egypt, Scotland, and England.

Surviving relatives are three sons, Stephen (wife Linda) of Flora, Mark (wife Deanna) of Winchester, and Philip (wife Deborah) of Wabash, seven grandchildren, Nathanael Lake (wife Tyronda) of Killeen, Texas, Kacey Lake of Winchester, Nina Lake of Indianapolis, Robert Lake of Wabash, Jennifer Hyer (husband Jason) of Edinburgh, Kelly Salas of Valparaiso, and Tenley Denton (husband Tracy) of Bringhurst; twelve great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Leah Hubbard and Norma Ringold, and one brother, Lloyd Polei.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm, Friday July 3, 2026 at Deerfield United Methodist Church with Rev. Philip Lake officiating.

Family and friends may visit from noon to 2 pm at the church. Burial will take place at Reitenour Cemetery, Ridgeville, Indiana.

In lie of flowers, memorials may be sent to Deerfield Methodist Church 7735 US-27, Ridgeville, IN 47380.
