Doris V. De Bolt, 102, of Greenville, OH, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 15, 2018 at her residence surrounded by loved ones. She was born October 22, 1915, in White River Township, Winchester, IN, daughter of Alva Benson and Ollie (Mote) Benson.
Doris graduated from Jackson H.S., IN, in 1933 after attending Wayne, Ward, White River, Jefferson, and McKinley schools. After graduating she attended and graduated from Ft. Wayne Beauty School in Ft. Wayne, IN. In high school she met the loved of her life, Paul H. De Bolt and they were married on June 26, 1935, in Covington, KY. Paul and Doris began farming in Jackson Township shortly thereafter. In addition to being a homemaker and working on the farm, she worked at Noffsinger's Pharmacy in Union City, IN, as a cashier and in merchandising and receiving from 1953 to 1956 taking a leave for the birth of her daughter. In 1966, Doris went back to work doing appraisal and property calculations in Randolph County for Tri State Appraisal Co. The following year she began her career for Hook's Drugs and after completing a pharmacy course she became Pharmacy Secretary and Assistant in charge of cashiers, bookkeeping and banking. She retired in 1984 after 17 years of service. After husband Paul's passing, she became the rural carrier for the Union City Times Gazette for 3 years. Doris was a member of the New Lisbon Christian Church, where she taught Bible school, was the Treasurer and Board Member of the Lisbon Cemetery Co., was past president of the Jackson Township, Indiana Extension Homemakers Association, and member of Sigma Phi Gamma International Sorority.
Doris loved to travel, loved watching her grandchildren's activities and playing cards and games with them, and loved her flowers, mowing yard, and cooking.
She was preceded by her parents; husband, Paul; sisters, Jennie (Carl) Almonrode, Velma (Tracy) Barber; brother, Harold (Esta Gordon) Benson.
She is survived by her son, David K. De Bolt; daughter, Susan (Frank) Smith; grandson, Zach De Bolt; granddaughters, Sarah O. Mills and Alicia (Robby) Mathes; great granddaughter, Riley Lynne Mathes; step-granddaughter, Heather Crouch; step-great grandchildren, Raven and Malachia Crouch; several cousins also.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Reichard Funeral Home Inc, 400 W. Deerfield Rd., Union City, IN with Pastor Tony Richmond officiating. Friends may call from 12 noon - 2:00 P.M. prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in the Lisbon Cemetery, Union City.
