Charlie B. Shaw

Charlie B. Shaw 90, passed away Tuesday September 15 2026 at his house surrounded by his family. Charlie was born on November 4, 1935 in Spartanburg, Indiana to the late Donald B. and E. Juanita (Leavell) Shaw.

He was a 1953 graduated of Spartanburg High School. Charlie then served in the United States Army and started farming after the service. A native of rural Spartanburg, Shaw return from the armed service in 1960 and began working for a fertilizer plant in Lynn, where he had worked some earlier. It didn’t provide much income, so he knew he needed to find a better job. In 1961, in what foreshadowed his future in the casket business, Shaw took a job at Spartan Casket, which began as a small business located in the back of an old grocery store in Spartanburg. By 1965, Shaw went to work for C.R. Jackson, who had a small shop. A few years later he sold his fertilizer company and used the equity in his house to open a small business which went by the name of Indiana Metallic Casket. In 1970 Indiana Metallic became Astral Industries until he retired in 2019. In 1997 he purchased the Winchester speedway out of bankruptcy with two partners and became the sole proprietor a year later. He also served on the Greensfork Township Bank Board which later became Merchants Advisory Board for a number of years.

Charlie is survived by his children Chris Saw, Lori (Brian) Ertel, Mark Shaw, grandchildren Shawn (Melia) Ozbun, Sam Wilt, and great grandson Landon.

Charlie was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Kaucher Shaw who passed away in 1983, grandson Toby Douglas Wilt, sisters Evelyn Landers, Mary Jo Hummel, and best friend his dog Rocco.

Visitation will be held on Saturday October 3, 2026 from 2 to 6 pm at the Winchester Speedway Hospitality Suite with Funeral Services on Sunday October 4, 2026 at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Spartanburg Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Comfort Keepers of Anderson, Indiana, Owen Ohman, Betsy, Jess, Madison, Missy his caregivers, Katrina and Kasandra of Southern Care Hospice.

In Lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions to be made to the Randolph County Tourism Board 123 W. Franklin Street Suite 201 Winchester, IN 47394.

The family would like to request Race Day Attire for the Funeral Services.
