UNION CITY, IN - Dale F. Conklin, 98, passed away Thursday Dec. 6, 2018 at Reid Health in Richmond. He was born in Randolph County, IN March 9, 1920 son of the late Harmon and Hazel (Stewart) Conklin.
Dale married Velma Thornburg May 4, 1938. They resided in Randolph County near Winchester most of their married life, where they farmed for several years. Dale also was employed at UCBC in Union City for although he retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was very active in politics and received a letter thanking him for his support from John F. Kennedy. They retired in Florida, living there for more than twenty-four years. Most of that time they enjoyed the game of golf but returned to Winchester in 2005. Family was of great importance to Dale. He also seldom met a stranger and was known to spark up conversation with anyone in his presence.
Survivors include 5 children, Shelba (Gene) Pollic of Pensacola, FL, Cheryl Reiss of Tupelo, MS, Karen (Kevin) Rodgers of Brownsburg, IN, Kevin (Diane) Conklin of Union City, OH, Bryan (Peachie) Conklin of Union City, IN; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; siblings, Marjorie Michael of Greenville, OH, Jeanette Cline of Sylvania, OH, Elvin Conklin of Mesa, AZ, Harold Conklin of Vandalia, OH; nieces and nephews also.
He was preceded by his parents; wife, Velma Thornburg Conklin "2010;" siblings, Paul, Donald, Leon, and Lowell Conklin, Doris Goddard, Barbara Worthen, Juanita Bixler, and Mary Conklin.
Visitation is 12 Noon - 2 P.M. Saturday December 8, 2018 at the Reichard Funeral Home Inc., 400 W. Deerfield Rd., Union City, IN. Services are 2:00 P.M. Saturday also at the funeral home with Pastor Eric Knight officiating. Burial will follow in the Union City Cemetery.
The family would like to thank American Heritage for taking such good care of Dale over the past 5 years, Dale said they treated him like family. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Randolph Community Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home. Online condolences can be expressed at www.reichardfh.com.  Dale wanted a dinner to celebrate his life so he planned a dinner at the Union City Community Room from 5:30 until 8:30 Saturday evening.  So friends and family please feel welcome.

To the family..I am saddened to hear of Dale passing. I will treasure the memories of golfing, card games and Dale and Velma being such close friends to my mom Lee Reichert and her husband John. I am now in Phoenix living. Loved your parents and again so sorry to hear this. Sending my Love to all
