Music by The Piano Brothers

Dale F. Stoner passed away peacefully in his sleep on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, July 8, 2018.  He was 90. A long time Union City resident and building contractor, he built 0ver 100 custom  homes in the Randolph County area through Stoner Construction Company.
Born in 1928, Dale was the youngest of 10 children born to C. Mel and Erma Stoner. Altogether, there were 8 Stoner brothers and 2 sisters, all of whom lived into their 80s.  He graduated from Madison High School, Jay County, where he met his lifelong love Mary Ruth Sheffer.  They married in 1947 and had the great joy to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary last year with family and friends.  Dale and Mary Ruth lived good full lives, retiring in their 60s and having the opportunity to visit all 50 states, the Panama Canal and the Oberammergau Passion Plays in Germany.
A gentle man of honesty, faith, and integrity, Dale helped raise three children;  Jean Fox (David) of Roslindale, MA, Jody Adelsperger of Hanover, PA, and Hon. Mark D. Stoner (Becky) of Indianapolis. He was deeply loved and respected by his children.  He always carried a toolbox and took time to remodel everyone’s kitchen.  He also shared his gifts and love with his 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.  He is survived by his brothers Richard of Union City and Henry of New Haven, IN.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews from the Stoner and Sheffer families.
Dale believed in community service. A Lions Club member of over 50 years, Dale served as a Trustee and Elder at First Christian Church.  He was active with Habitat for Humanity and served on the Union City Hospital Board. He was recognized as Volunteer Man of Year by the Union City Chamber of Commerce.
Later in life, Dale and Mary Ruth spent winters in Sebring, Florida where they enjoyed many Hoosier and Canadian friends.  In 2014, they moved closer to family in Indianapolis and became members of Allisonville Christian Church.
Services will be Thursday, July 12th, which would have been Dale and Mary Ruth’s 71st anniversary, at Allisonville Christian Church, 7701 Allisonville Road.  Visitation will be at 10 with services at noon.   Burial will be at Salamonia Cemetery in Jay County.  For friends from Randolph County who cannot attend, a reception for the family will be held at the Union City Community Room from 4:30- 6p. I am so sorry to hear of Dale's passing. He was a very good man, and the First Christian Church of Union City, misses both Dale and Mary Ruth. Knowing Dale he is looking to repair something in Heaven, but God will say take a seat Dale and rest awhile, I will make a list later. Peace be with you Mary Ruth.

Growing up, with Dale as our neighbor, I always thought he looked like Roy Rogers. He was a kind and decent man. I'm saddened by his passing. Condolences to the family.

"Happy Trails to you......'til we meet again."

It was my immense pleasure to have known Dale Stoner. He was an outstanding man that greatly enhanced the image of the All-American man. It was a distinct pleasure to have been the Administrator of the Union City Hospital and work with Dale who was a member of the Board of Directors. He was mature and rendered splendid advice to those seeking his input. So long Dale - it was a pleasure to have known you.
