Gregory Scott Hockensmith died peacefully in his sleep on July 12th, at 9:45pm, at Reid Hospital while being held and sung to by his beloved sister, Jane Hockensmith-Reich. Born on February 20, 1949, he and his sister, Jane, lost their parents, Donald Eugene Hockensmith and Irene Harshman Hockensmith, as young children to a car accident and were raised by their aunt and uncle, Duane and Mavis Hockensmith, along with cousin-sister, Janice Hockensmith Laun on a farm outside of Union City, Indiana.

Greg served in the U.S. Army achieving the rank of SP/E-4; obtained an Associates Degree in Architectural Engineering Technology and worked for the Union City Body Company for over 30 years, ending his career there doing Time Study. Greg’s passions included volunteering for the American Legion, serving on their Color Guard; reading mysteries; working outside in his yard; caring for his furred companion, “Patches;” talking with his sister, Jane, for hours on the phone and spending time with his friends from high school, the body company and the American Legion. For those who knew Greg, when describing him the quality mentioned without exception, was Greg’s gentle kindness for everyone and willingness to help anyone.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M.  Saturday July 22, 2017 at Lisbon Cemetery with military burial rites conducted by the Randolph County Honor Guard.  Anyone who knew Greg is welcome to attend and share your memories.  Condolences may be emailed to his sisters, Jane and Janice, c/o
